چکیده

A population of discrete H I clouds in the halo of the inner Galaxy has been discovered in 21cm observations made with the Green Bank Telescope. The halo clouds are seen up to 1.5 kpc from the Galactic plane at tangent points throughout the first longitude quadrant and at several locations in the fourth quadrant. Their velocities follow Galactic rotation. A group of clouds more than 500 pc below the plane near l = 29 was studied in detail. In the median, the 38 clouds have a peak NHI of a few 10 cm, a diameter of a few tens of pc, an H I density of a few tenths cm, and an H I mass of 50 M⊙, with a considerable range about the median. Some halo clouds have line widths so narrow that their temperature must be < 1000 K. Some appear to have a core-halo velocity structure. As much as half the mass of the neutral halo may be in clouds. Is the Galactic Halo Baryonic ?

Recent observations of microlensing events in the Large Magel-lanic Cloud suggest that a sizeable fraction of the galactic halo is in the form of Massive Astrophysical Compact Halo Objects (MACHOs) with mass less than about 0.1M ⊙. Here we argue that molecular clouds (mainly of H 2) located in the galactic halo can contribute substantially to its total mass. We outline a scenario in which dark ...

A Search for Stellar Obscuration Events due to Dark Clouds

The recent detections of a large population of faint submillimetre sources, an excess halo γ-ray background, and the extreme scattering events observed for extragalactic radio sources have been explained as being due to baryonic dark matter in the form of small, dark, gas clouds. In this paper we present the results of a search for the transient stellar obscurations such clouds are expected to ...

The Magellanic Stream and the Density of Coronal Gas in the Galactic Halo.

The properties of the Magellanic Stream constrain the density of coronal gas in the distant Galactic halo. We show that motion through ambient gas can strongly heat Stream clouds, driving mass loss and causing evaporation. If the ambient gas density is too high, then evaporation occurs on unreasonably short timescales. Since heating dominates drag, tidal stripping appears to be responsible for ...

Gravitational Microlensing and Dark Matter in the Galactic Halo

Recent observations of microlensing events in the Large Magellanic Cloud suggest that a sizable fraction of the galactic halo is in the form of MACHOs (Massive Astrophysical Compact Halo Objects) with mass ∼ 0.1M⊙. We present the basics of microlensing and give an overview of the results obtained so far. We also describe a scenario in which dark clusters of MACHOs and cold molecular clouds (mai...

ACKNOWLEGMENT

Many scientists and colleagues from abroad and Iran (listed below) voluntarily helped us very much in review and evaluation process of manuscripts being accepted for publication in 2020 issues of IJRR (Volume 18, numbers 1-4) and those not suitable for publication. Indeed their careful and critically reading the manuscripts and their valuable comments and suggestions greatly improved the qualit...
